Optimizing big downloads/iPad settings

Modified on Fri, 07 May 2021 at 12:17 PM

In order to optimise big downloads please ensure the following:

1 Make sure the iPad is plugged in to the power. Though the battery is good, it will go flat eventually. With a power adapter plugged into the wall, it will stay on as long as there are downloads to complete

2 Keep the app open and the iPad unlocked. Downloads will only progress when the Virtual app is open on the iPad. As soon as the app is closed, or the iPad is locked/goes to sleep, downloads will pause. Please set the iPad and App up as follows:

iPAD SET UP

1. Turn off all notifications

1a. SETTINGS>NOTIFICATIONS>

1b. SHOW PREVIEWS – set to NEVER

1c. In NOTIFICATION STYLE pane, manually turn all apps to OFF

2. Prevent the iPad from automatically locking:

2a. SETTINGS>DISPLAY & BRIGHTNESS>AUTO-LOCK

2b. Set to NEVER

3. Turn off automatic updates:

3a. SETTINGS >APP STORE> AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS

3b. Toggle all options OFF

4. Turn off SIRI

4a. SETTINGS>SIRI & SEARCH

4b. Ask Siri

4c. Listen for “Hey Siri” – Toggle OFF

4d. Press Top Button for Siri – Toggle OFF

5. Enable LES MILLS Virtual to be found on the network (from iOS 14)

5a. SETTINGS > Privacy > Local Network

5b. Les Mills Virtual - Toggle ON

6.  Turn on Guided Access
6a. Accessibility Settings (SETTINGS>ACCESSIBILITY)
6b. Toggle Guided Access to ON (Green) – advised to use a Passcode for this which can be activated within these settings.

6c. Display Auto Lock > set to default

Within the APP

7. Turn off Scheduled Downloads.

7a. SETTINGS>MANAGE DOWNLOADS> NIGHT SCHEDULED DOWNLOADS

7b. Turn toggle OFF

3 Try to put the iPad as close as you can to the WIFI router. It may seem obvious, but the closer you are to the source, the stronger, more stable and faster your WIFI will be. You can always move the iPad back to where it needs to be once the initial downloads have completed.

4 If you have multiple devices, try setting each device up one at a time. Letting downloads complete on each device before setting up the next

5 If it's still taking too long, try asking your AV partner or IT provider if they can do the download for you. This might be the easiest way to get the virtual iPad setup as soon as possible

Remember:

You can setup, play with, create your studio timetables in the Virtual Scheduler while content downloads, or even before you setup your iPad device. Once the initial download completes, if you have slow internet and are concerned the quarterly releases will impact on your network speeds, set the downloads to occur only during off peak hours.

This can be done in the SETTINGS>MANAGE DOWNLOADS section of the app.

If you have more than one iPad, you will need to make sure this setting is enabled for each and every iPad you have.
