The Virtual app is designed to play high definition video to an external display while still enabling the app to be used to view the timetable, browse upcoming classes or pause, stop and select the next class. This means videos do not play on the iPad screen. Instead, all video AND audio plays out the adapter to the external screen (video wall/projection screen) only.
Please see AV requirements for more information.
If you do not have an external display connected to the iPad using an Apple adapter, an error will display on the iPad. 'There is no external screen connected to the device'.
If you've connected your equipment in line with our recommendations and content won't play. The first step is to simplify the setup to establish where the issue might be.
- Connect the iPad to a computer monitor (or TV screen) via the Apple adapter and HDMI cable. Play a class via the App Classes screen (after unlocking the padlock to the top right and entering your admin code). If video and audio play on the monitor then the iPad, adapter and HDMI cable are fine.
- Remove the connection to the computer monitor and connect an active HDMI cable to the projector. iPad > Apple adapter > active HDMI > projector. Test a class in admin mode again to make sure content plays. If it doesn't, the issue is with the projector settings.
- Install the EDID and extract audio from the EDID with an audio cable to the sound system. Test again.
- Make sure the iPad is connected to a power source and is hard-wired to the network. Schedule a class via the Scheduler, wait for it to sync to the App and see if it plays all the way through.
- Enable Automation (if required) and test a set of scheduled classes to make sure the projector and screens operate as they should. You should see a 'connected' status within Automation settings after Automation is setup.
